First responder support before EMS arrival
Some emergencies are medical first and fire-related second. In those moments, our volunteers may be the first people on scene. We help secure the area, reach the patient, and support immediate life-safety needs while EMS is en route or getting established.
We are careful about describing this service because it depends on the call and the responding agencies. What residents can count on is this: when dispatched, we show up ready to help make the scene safer, speed patient access, and support the overall response.
Extra Hands Early
When dispatched, firefighters can reach a scene quickly and support life-safety needs before or alongside EMS.
Access & Scene Support
Crews help with patient access, lifting, hazard control, and CPR or AED use when appropriate.
EMS Handles Transport
Ambulance transport and patient care are led by county EMS; the department supports the overall response.
What our crew does on scene
Some emergencies are medical first and fire-related second. When dispatched to those calls, volunteers help secure the area, reach the patient, and support immediate life-safety needs while EMS is en route or getting established.
On scene, that can mean help with access and lifting, hazard control, traffic protection, or assisting with CPR and AED use when appropriate. The department's role is support — county EMS leads patient care and handles transport.
